Timmy is determined to become a powerful wizzer... um, wizard. With the help of his sister, her friends and you, he just might be able to do it before dinnertime.
Mystery Gate is hybrid board game/visual novel sort of thing. It's short, silly and, quite frankly, not much of a game. However, as a first effort, it's... well, still not that impressive. But it might be worth a chuckle or two.
It has ALL ORIGINAL HAND DRAWN ART!!! (pause for laughter) Well, it gave me an excuse to buy crayons. So there's that.
When I wrote it, I had a few goals in mind:
- Get some experience with Ren'Py and Python.
- Write it with as much reusable code as possible.
- Actually finish it.
- Figure out the whole mechanism for posting it on Itch.io to share it with you folks.
- Hopefully, give some of you a moment or two of entertainment.
- Wait for the inevitable abuse in the comments.
The first four are done. I guess we'll see about that last two.

Super cute game! The pictures are adorable, and the D&D references are fun, as is the board game style. (Would have been cool to have a d4 instead of a spinner, but totally fine as is. :) ) Some cute music and a few little sound effects would be fun too. Awesome little game for a 'first attempt'! (Free of grammar and spelling errors as well * wink *)
Thanks for the kind feedback!
I agree - It desperately needs sound effects and music. I should go back and do that.
On the spinner, the sad thing is I didn't even think of it. You figure it would have been obvious! Oh, well. :)
Also, thanks for noticing on the grammar/spelling. Tech writing pays the bills so I'm supposed to be good at that part. In theory...
Hello! I played Mystery Gate and enjoyed it very much. Woohoo!
I like the sister who avoids the childish brother but watches over him!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! It was a fun project to make.
I'm the youngest myself but I suspect that's what happened with me - I ran around being a silly kid annoying my older siblings while they kept an eye out for me. :)
Thanks for taking time to check out my game and for the nice comment!
